LETHBRIDGE, AB – Voters cast their votes in the 2021 municipal elections October 18, and the City of Lethbridge is looking for people to work the polls.

Applications are now being accepted for election workers for the municipal and school trustee elections. The city stated that, “an election takes a lot of dedicated people to ensure voters can successfully cast their ballot on Election Day and the City of Lethbridge historically has provided residents with opportunities to assist in the democratic process.”

The plan is to hire 300 workers. Positions include Deputy Returning Officer, Ballot Box Clerk and Information Clerk. Election staff will be expected to work between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on October 18.

Those wishing to apply must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Lethbridge. The city notes that preference will be given to people with prior experience working an election.

Returning Officer Bonnie Hilford said, “we have always had excellent interest from our residents applying to work the municipal election.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to be involved.”

In addition to work on October 18, staff will be required to attend a mandatory one-time, two-hour training session. Sessions will be scheduled between September 27 and October 5.

Residents interested in applying to work Election Day can do so here. Applications will be accepted until September 3.

On October 18, residents will elect the positions of Mayor, City Councillors (eight), Public School Board Trustees (seven) and Separate School Board Trustees (five) – all to serve four-year terms in office. Additionally, there will be questions on the ballot from the City of Lethbridge, as well as the provincial government. Voters are required to present acceptable identification in order to vote.
