Elections Canada mailing out voter information cards

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Registered electors in Canada will soon be getting their voter information cards.

Elections Canada has begun mailing out the cards, and the agency says all registered voters should receive their card by September 10. They tell electors when and where to vote and include information about the accessibility of their polling station.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elections Canada notes that some traditional polling stations are not available. The agency stated that, “our priority is to offer safe and accessible polling places.”

• The name on their card contains an error or;
• They receive a voter information card for a deceased person or someone who does not live at their address.

The agency said that “due to unforeseen circumstances, the location of some polling stations may change after the voter information cards are mailed.”

“Whenever possible, electors assigned to such polling stations will receive another voter information card with the words ‘Replacement Card’ printed on the bottom right corner.”

In order to vote, electors must show proof of identification and their address. The voter information card can be used as proof of address at the polls. Electors must use it with another piece of accepted ID. However, Elections Canada said electors do not need to bring their voter information card with them to the polls, but it will make the process faster.
