LETHBRIDGE, AB – Bill Ginther has entered his name to become one of Lethbridge’s next city councillors.

He says he wants to be able to serve his community in a whole new way.

“We have lived in Lethbridge for eight years and have really enjoyed our time and we want to give something back. With the experience I have in life, I think I have something to offer and I want to approach it with a very simple thing we don’t hear about that often anymore – it’s honesty, integrity, and common sense.”

Ginther has been the Executive Director of the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen for the last four years and has been involved in international relief and development work for much of his life.

“We take a close look at the issues we have in our city – things like homelessness and poverty and drug addiction – these are things that don’t necessarily get you voted in, but they’re issues close to my heart from the work that I do. I think we need to do a much better job at providing for all the people that live in our city.”

Another top priority for Ginther is the difference between hearing and listening.

He believes that many governments, at all levels, do a good job at hearing what the concerns of their people are, but do not truly listen to what they need nor take action to address that.

“We make decisions without really a lot of consultation, and after all, we are using other peoples’ money and I think it’s really important to be accountable for the money that we spend on behalf of the people.”

General voting day for the 2021 Alberta municipal elections is October 18.
