LETHBRIDGE, AB – After Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf faced backlash on comments he made last week regarding COVID-19 in unvaccinated Albertans, he wants to clarify what he said.

In comments made to a local media outlet last Friday, Neudorf said:

“In the UK we also saw a rapid rise of case numbers but then an equally rapid decline as it finished going through the unvaccinated population it didn’t have anywhere else to go so I am very hopeful that we will see the same kind of trend, maybe a bit of an accelerated case rate but then a very quick decline as well.”

Neudorf clarified Monday saying “my hope is that [COVID cases] will level off as quickly as it rose.”

His remarks from last week gained traction very quickly on Twitter and Instagram making locals very angry including Leader of the NDP, Rachel Notley.

She went on to say in a tweet, “still no apology from the UCP Caucus Chair and Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf for his horrific comments. Are we to believe this is the position of the Government? Very disturbing.”

David Shepherd, NDP health critic, said in a statement on Friday that “the [UCP] plan is clear: let ‘er rip. This government will let the delta variant sweep through our unvaccinated population, causing more serious illness and death.”

“I am in utter disbelief. The UCP has abandoned Albertans to the fourth wave,” adds Shepherd.

Many locals around Lethbridge became enraged by Neudorf’s comments making him have to clarify his point from the original interview.

Neudorf reiterates that hopefully Albertans can stay safe from the virus and “hopefully we will see cases decline soon.”
