Highway 25 bridge work to start September 2

Sep 1, 2021 | 7:06 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Motorists in the Lethbridge area are being advised of some highway maintenance work.

Starting Thursday, September 2, Alberta Transportation crews will start rehabilitation work on the Highway 25 bridge over Highway 3. Work will be done in two stages, with northbound rehabilitation being completed in 2021 and southbound work finished in 2022.

With Stage 1, the northbound lane on the bridge will be closed with detours in place. Southbound lanes will stay open with the speed limit brought down to 50 km/h. The eastbound Highway 3 ramp to northbound Highway 25 will be closed and traffic will be detoured using local roads.

For traffic coming from Lethbridge, the following routes will be impacted:

  • Northbound University Drive to westbound Highway 3 (to Coalhurst/Fort Macleod/Calgary) will need to use Walsh Drive and Westside Drive;
  • Northbound University Drive/Highway 25 (to Picture Butte) will need to use Bridge Drive and then back west on Highway 3 to Highway 25;
  • Northbound University Drive to eastbound Highway 3 (to Coaldale/Taber/Medicine Hat) will remain unaffected.

Eastbound Highway 3 will be reduced to a single lane when overhead bridge work is taking place.

The first stage of work by Alberta Transportation is anticipated to be completed by the end of October, 2021 – weather permitting. Stage 2 is expected to start in the Spring of 2022.

Information message boards have been placed for added public awareness. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the construction area and follow posted detours.
