Chris Rowley running for Lethbridge City Council

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Chris Rowley hopes to become one of Lethbridge’s eight new city councillors this fall.

He says he decided to enter his name into the race after speaking to others who were vying for seats, some of whom he felt did not care enough about issues such as homelessness in the city.

“I feel that the low income and the homeless need a voice on council that they haven’t had in the last term of city council.”

Rowley told LNN that he knows many people are upset with the current crop of councillors, primarily due to his belief that they do not do a good enough job of listening to the public’s concerns.

“I, as being someone who does a lot of advocacy in the disability world, I’ve learned how to listen and be present with people. Whether I can give them what they want or not, I’m still present with them.”

When it comes to his top priorities as a potential member of city council, he says he would try to put the needs of the city before his own personal agendas.

Some of the other pressing concerns Rowley would want to deal with include building a third bridge to the west side, lowering the city’s crime rate, and having more awareness and coming up with different solutions to the overdose crisis.

General voting day for the 2021 Alberta municipal elections is October 18.
