AHS reports 10 COVID deaths Friday, 1,473 new cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health has released its report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,473 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 266,037. Of those, 16,265 cases are active while 247,328 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 132 people tested positive with 29 in Medicine Hat, 23 in the M.D. of Taber, and 19 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region went up by 33.

Since yesterday’s update, 10 Albertans died from COVID including four in the Calgary Zone, two each in the Edmonton and North Zones, and one each in the South and Central Zones. To date, 2,444 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 686 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID including 169 who have been admitted to intensive care.

On Thursday, the Alberta Government reported that 87 per cent of COVID-19 patients in ICU were unvaccinated. The full post can be seen below:

  • Calgary Zone – 105,276 cases, 4,485 active
    • 200 in hospital, 49 in ICU
    • 730 deaths (four new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 87,378 cases, 4,814 active
    • 233 in hospital, 71 in ICU
    • 1,134 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 32,309 cases, 2,952 active
    • 75 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 223 deaths (two new)
  • Cental Zone – 24,840 cases, 2,213 active
    • 101 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 191 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 16,183 cases, 1,669 active
    • 75 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 166 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of new cases in the South Health Zone.

  • Lethbridge – 5,420 cases (19 new), 284 active, 41 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,030 cases (10 new), 113 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,768 cases (five new), 85 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,619 cases (four new), 84 active, 25 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 2,872 cases (29 new), 565 active, 41 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 1,712 cases (11 new), 100 active, 16 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,428 cases (12 new), 102 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,283 cases (10 new), 152 active, 22 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 779 cases (23 new), 160 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 580 cases (one new), 111 active, one death
  • County of Warner – 513 cases (five new), 31 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 442 cases (eight new), 53 active, six deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 380 cases (four new), 49 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 312 cases (four new), 30 active, four deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 181 cases, nine active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 108 cases (three new), 13 active, one death
