LETHBRIDGE, AB – A one-night traffic enforcement initiative by Lethbridge Police this past weekend resulted in a total of 43 charges.

The initiative started on Saturday and was one of a series where additional officers were brought in to address ongoing, problematic driving behaviours and equipment violations.

“The majority of the charges, 33, were for various infractions under the Traffic Safety Act,” LPS says.

Police also say there were eight charges for vehicle equipment violations and one vehicle was seized.

Two charges involved alcohol and three warrants were executed for unrelated matters.

Acting-Sgt. Brent Paxman, of the Traffic Response Unit, said the number of equipment violations, including those which disturb the public’s right to enjoy their backyards and get a night’s sleep, declined since the initiative first began.

The number of complaints brought to the attention of the Police Service has also diminished.
