LETHBRIDGE, AB – As general voting day in the 2021 federal election nears, Elections Canada continues to seek out people to work the polls September 20.

As of Wednesday morning, the agency says it’s at about 80 per cent for workers.

Elections Canada noted that Returning Officers “typically hire more workers than needed in case a poll worker must be replaced at the last minute.”

With that, the following electoral districts still have positions available:

  • Lethbridge
  • Medicine Hat
  • Some rural areas in Southern Alberta
  • Various areas in Edmonton
  • Red Deer-Mountain View

In order to work, those interested must be a Canadian citizen at least 16 years of age. The pay ranges from $17.22 to $23.44 per hour, depending on the position.

Additionally, poll workers are trained and receive $54.65 for the training session. Positions include front line poll workers, information officers and deputing returning officers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, poll workers are required to wear masks. Health and safety measures will be in place at all polling stations.

Anyone interested in applying can do so online at elections.ca or by calling 1-800-463-6868.

General voting day in the 2021 federal election is Monday, September 20.
