LETHBRIDGE, AB – A sentence has been given for Cyprien Mudenge, 56, of Lethbridge who was found guilty of one count of sexual assault from an incident in 2018.

Mudenge will spend 90 days in jail on weekends and will be placed on probation for one year following his time served.

Judge Johnna Kubik gave her reasoning as to why his sentence is less than what the Crown wanted.

As she said, “sexual assault is a serious and grave offence,” she had to consider all the factors going into her decision.

The factors included:

  • Mudenge’s daughter is disabled and needs around-the-clock care 24 hours a day.
  • The wife of Mudenge works around 60 hours per week as a healthcare professional and cannot attend to the daughter.
  • She stated that Mudenge stays at home now to help his daughter.

Mudenge is to have no contact with the victim, attend counselling, court-ordered DNA sampling, and is on a firearms prohibition for 10 years.

Previous information on Mudenge:

Mudenge inappropriately touched a 36-year-old woman who was receiving a massage at a north Lethbridge clinic in November of 2018.

Mudenge touched her butt, chest, and vagina, despite her not wanting him to do that, him not asking if he could, and her not telling him that he could.

The woman told the court she was scared to say anything or accuse Mudenge just to be sure she would not be making any false accusations.

Although the defense attorney for Mudenge brought up inconsistencies between her testimony in court and the series of three statements, he was deemed guilty.

The defense claimed the woman could not properly remember the specific order of which body parts his client massaged or in what manner he moved her underwear.
