AHS reports 34 COVID deaths in one day in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the 24 hours.

1,682 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 296,466. Of those, 20,306 cases are active while 273,463 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 216 people tested positive with 61 in Medicine Hat and 46 in Lethbridge.

Active infections across the region went up by 34.

Since yesterday’s update, 34 Albertans died from COVID with 12 in the Central Zone, 10 in the Edmonton Zone, six in the Calgary Zone, four in the Central Zone, and two in the South Zone. To date, 2,697 people in the province have died as a result of the pandemic.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Cardston County and the County of Newell.

  • Calgary Zone – 112,827 cases, 4,884 active
    • 286 in hospital, 92 in ICU
    • 780 deaths (six new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 95,292 cases, 5,198 active
    • 337 in hospital, 113 in ICU
    • 1,189 deaths (10 new)
  • North Zone – 38,217 cases, 3,851 active
    • 147 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 266 deaths (four new)
  • Central Zone – 30,666 cases, 4,061 active
    • 174 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 261 deaths (12 new)
  • South Zone – 19,415 cases, 2,294 active
    • 140 in hospital, 29 in ICU
    • 202 deaths (two new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past 24 hours:

  • Lethbridge – 6,084 cases (46 new), 479 active, 45 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,231 cases (17 new), 146 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,007 cases (16 new), 168 active, 13 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,836 cases (13 new), 162 active, 27 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 3,854 cases (61 new), 673 active, 52 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,940 cases (14 new), 172 active, 18 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,645 cases (19 new), 159 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,514 cases (26 new), 159 active, 25 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,021 cases (nine new), 180 active, 10 deaths
  • Cypress County – 748 cases (eight new), 109 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 623 cases (six new), 78 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 530 cases (five new), 61 active, eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 448 cases (four new), 48 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 385 cases (four new), 54 active, five deaths (one new)
  • County of Forty Mile – 263 cases (nine new), 70 active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 128 cases (two new), 14 active, one death
