He would also like to see a push for new businesses in the southern Alberta town. Korbett said his third priority highlights municipal service levels, with the candidate noting the town council is mandated to ensure services are provided efficiently and well.

He told LNN that, “The biggest factor in municipal services that I want to focus on is communication.”

“It’s a buzz word that a lot of people use but the reality is, until we have champions within our community that can communicate what the town is actually working on and doing – we’re not communicating effectively enough, so we have to get to that point, where we all know what’s going on.”

In addition to having served on town council throughout this last term, the self-employed Korbett said he’s been heavily involved in the community since moving to Pincher Creek in 1995.

He’s been a president of the Rotary Club of Pincher Creek and has served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the town. Korbett added that he’s done work with the Pincher Creek & District Chamber of Commerce, as well as volunteered and sat with the Subdivision Authority for the town for roughly 12 years prior to joining council, helping to study land use bylaws.

He said his time with council has been a very important learning experience and believes it would be a valuable asset if elected mayor.

“Learning the ropes at the council table is like drinking out of a fire hose for the first three to six months and that is a critical component that anybody who is running for office – or Mayor – should actually do a time on council before you figure out what you’re going to do.”

General election day is October 18, with advance polls open in Pincher Creek October 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 962 St. John Avenue.
