Majority of Albertans say province is handling health & the economy poorly

In Q3 2019, 60 per cent of Albertans through the government was doing a good job at handling health care, falling to 36 per cent in 2020 and to just 20 per cent in 2021.

Likewise, for the economy, those numbers dipped from 63 per cent in 2019 to 40 per cent in 2020 and 30 per cent in 2021.

Specifically for COVID-19, between November 2020 and October 2021, those expressing confidence in the Government of Alberta fell from 70 per cent to just 20 per cent.

Respondents were also asked if they felt the province was doing a good job in 16 different categories. The ones with the best reception were:

Transportation infrastructure (46%)
Environment/climate change (37%)
Energy – oil and gas/pipelines (34%)
Public transit (32%)
First Nations/Indigenous issues (31%)

Among the Albertans surveyed, 552 said they know who they would vote for if a provincial election were to be held today. 43 per cent would cast their ballots for the NDP, 31 per cent would try to re-elect the UCP, and 15 per cent believe in the Wildrose Independence Party.

A total of 5,011 Canadian adults were surveyed between September 29 and October 3, 2021.
