1210 new COVID cases over the weekend, but numbers gradually drop

LETHBRDGE, AB. — The province’s COVID-19 numbers for the weekend (Friday through Sunday) were late being posted due to some glitches but, statistics from the weekend were eventually uploaded.

A total of 1,210 new COVID cases were confirmed across the province over the three days (533 on Oct 29, 335 on Oct 30 and 342 on Oct 31), bringing the total to 324,199. Of those, 7,580 cases are active while 313,508 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 120 people tested positive with 33 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Since Friday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID with deaths in all of the zones, including five in the South Zone. To date, 3,111 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

There were five deaths in the South Zone (one in west Lethbridge, two in north Lethbridge, one in Cardston County, and the other in the MD of Taber.

Provincially, 689 patients are currently hospitalized including 157 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 119,832 cases, 1,985 active
    • 152 in hospital, 41 in ICU
    • 833 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 101,140 cases, 1,724 active
    • 225 in hospital, 72 in ICU
    • 1,286 deaths (Four new)
  • North Zone – 44,174 cases, 1,606 active
    • 91 in hospital, 9 in ICU
    • 357 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 36,312 cases, 1,457 active
    • 142 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 362 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone – 22,391 cases, 798 active
    • 79 in hospital, 19 in ICU
    • 273 deaths (five new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the last day:

  • Lethbridge – 6,903 cases (33 new), 254 active, 60 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,518 cases (5 new), 91 active, 7 deaths (1 new)
    • North Lethbridge – 2,274 cases (15 new), 74 active, 21 deaths (2 new)
    • South Lethbridge – 2,091 cases (13 new), 89 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,427 cases (13 new), 118 active, 77 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,081 cases (five new), 24 active, 23 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,930 cases (30 new), 87 active, 18 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,784 cases (17 new), 86 active, 37 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,225 cases (8 new), 42 active, 15 deaths (one new)
  • Cypress County – 831 cases, 19 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 750 cases (7 new), 44 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 621 cases (five new), 36 active, nine deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 528 cases (two new), 19 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 464 cases, 21 active, six deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 335 cases, 21 active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 163 cases, 21 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
