COVID hospitalizations, deaths, active cases trending downwards in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

516 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 325,517. Of those, 6,515 cases are active while 315,865 people have recovered.

12,388 tests were completed over the past day, meaning the positivity rate was 4.17 per cent.

In the South Zone, 43 people tested positive with 16 in Lethbridge.

Active infections regionally fell by 15.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with one each in the South, Central, Edmonton, and North Zones. To date, 3,137 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Lethbridge County.

Provincially, 677 patients are currently hospitalized including 146 who have been admitted to intensive care.

AHS says data on vaccinations and COVID-19 outcomes by vaccination status are delayed due to technical issues.

  • Calgary Zone – 120,195 cases, 1,771 active
    • 153 in hospital, 39 in ICU
    • 839 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 101,815 cases, 1,468 active
    • 212 in hospital, 70 in ICU
    • 1,290 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 44,477 cases, 1,402 active
    • 99 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 364 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 36,558 cases, 1,176 active
    • 141 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 368 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 22,426 cases, 695 active
    • 72 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 276 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the last day:

  • Lethbridge – 6,944 cases (16 new), 223 active, 60 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,533 cases (nine new), 75 active, seven deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,293 cases (five new), 75 active, 21 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,111 cases (two new), 73 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,441 cases (three new), 94 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,085 cases (two new), 20 active, 23 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,915 cases (three new), 57 active, 19 deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 1,795 cases (three new), 79 active, 37 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,230 cases (two new), 39 active, 15 deaths
  • Cypress County – 839 cases (one new), 24 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 754 cases, 36 active, four deaths
