LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man has been charged after drugs and weapons were seized at a south side hotel this week.

The LPS notes that it has attended the hotel along the 2200 block of 7 Avenue South more than 50 times in the past few months. In October, an investigation was started by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) in partnership with Lethbridge Police, following concerns from the community about drug trafficking by tenants at the hotel.

On November 4, during the early morning hours, a search warrant was executed, and two people were taken into custody without incident. Police say they seized quantities of methamphetamine, cash, cocaine, prescription medications, brass knuckles and a machete. The estimated value of the drugs seized is about $25,000.

The second individual arrested at the hotel Thursday was released without charges.

Since August, the LPS has attended the hotel over 50 times in response to calls for service, including a shooting between a tenant of the hotel and another man.

Acting Staff Sergeant Trevor Sheppard said, “we have received many concerns from neighbouring residents near this property with respect to criminal activity including drug trafficking by the tenants and spin off crimes such as drug use in residential alleys, suspicious people and property offences.”

“We want to assure the community that we will continue to dedicate resources to target this activity.”
