It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of BRUCE ALEXANDER RINES on October 31, 2021 at the age of 67 years.

The beloved husband of Stephanie Legault (née Long), Bruce also leaves his children: Alex (Danielle), Eric (Nicole), Mike (Katie), and stepdaughter Beckie (Marc); grandchildren, Chloe, Jack, Leah, Bowie, Jesse, Dawson, Kyle and Hanna; his brother Bill (Wendy) and sister Sue (Lance), uncle Joe (Kay) and aunt Sue as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bruce was predeceased by his brother John (Debbie) and his parents, Jack and Shirley (née Hudson) Rines.

Bruce was a warm and friendly man who loved helping people. He was very interested in current events and was an avid reader. He had a great sense of humour. Bruce was an affectionate and loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather. He wanted to thank his former wife, Gail for being a great mother to his sons.

Bruce grew up in New Westminster, BC where he was actively involved in Band, learning to play the saxophone, a skill he enjoyed all his life. He was also very athletic and played soccer and loved skiing. Bruce’s summers were full of boating and swimming with family and friends at their home in Ocean Park they called, The Farm.

Bruce earned a degree at UBC that started his long and varied career in Civil Engineering. He built bridges on the Alaska Highway, as well as many projects in Kelowna, Gibsons, St. Lucia and for the Greater Vancouver Regional District. He spent several years in the north of Canada including being the Chief Engineer for the City of Iqaluit. Before he retired in 2020, his most recent job in Lethbridge, Alberta was managing contractors on the Blood Reserve installing city water to the houses.

Over his lifetime he had many other jobs including fishing in Alaska, painting commercial buildings in Ottawa and he enjoyed working in plumbing and electrical at Home Depot.

Bruce put all his effort and enthusiasm into every job he tackled, especially at home, whether that was building a gazebo or designing and building a brick driveway. He loved gardening, he was an excellent painter and he could fix just about anything.

Bruce loved travelling and as well as trips to England and Bermuda, he loved going on camping trips throughout BC, especially with grandkids and to visit family. Barkerville became a special place for him over the last nine years, so he bought a burial plot there. He is profoundly and sadly missed.

A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held at VICTORY MEMORIAL PARK, 14831 – 28 Avenue, Surrey, BC, on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.
