Lethbridge above provincial average for full COVID-19 vaccination status

Nov 18, 2021 | 11:06 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccination campaigns continue throughout the province, but the majority of communities in the southernmost region are below the average.

Across Alberta, AHS reports that 82.4 per cent of eligible people are fully vaccinated (70.1 per cent of the total population).

The agency does not give percentages for entire individual health zones.

However, AHS’ vaccination status map shows that the only areas in the South Zone to have higher percentages of people who are fully immunized than the provincial norm are the three sections of Lethbridge.

The west side, with the highest rate in the region, has seen 89 per cent of the eligible population get their two shots.

Altogether, 74,262 residents of Lethbridge are fully vaccinated against COVID as of November 17.

The County of Forty Mile is the only community in the South Zone to have less than half of its eligible population fully vaccinated.

You can see the full regional breakdown below.

  • Lethbridge West – 89%
  • Lethbridge North – 83.6%
  • Lethbridge South – 83.4%
  • Medicine Hat – 79.7%
  • Pincher Creek – 78.8%
  • Cardston-Kainai – 75.8%

  • Lethbridge County – 65.7%
  • Fort Macleod – 64.1%

At the time of publication, only people aged 12 and up are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations.

The percentages listed above could change drastically soon as Health Canada is set to give a decision imminently on potentially allowing children aged five to 11 to get vaccinated with smaller doses from Pfizer.
