Lethbridge man faces impaired driving, drug-related charges

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have charged a man with numerous offences following a motor vehicle collision.

At approximately 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 23, officers received a 9-1-1 report that a vehicle proceeded through a red light and collided with an empty parked vehicle on Stafford Drive and 6 Ave North.

Upon their arrival, the vehicle was still running, locked, and in drive.

The motorist was inside the vehicle, unresponsive.

Police broke one of the vehicle’s windows in order to open the door and extricate the driver. According to LPS, the driver began to resist arrest.

A small amount of fentanyl was seized from the vehicle.

Darrell Lamar Russell, 40, of Lethbridge is charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, and two counts of failure to comply with release order conditions.

He remains in custody while awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
