LETHBRIDGE, AB – Forget the big box stores, those looking for Christmas presents can support local artists and vendors this weekend.

At the Rocky Mountain Turf Club on Saturday, November 27, over 35 youth vendors will look to sell items that they made themselves.

Mistletoe Market Organizer Judy Sakal Meier says the kid entrepreneur market features youths aged four to 18.

“We have the coolest slime products that you can’t even find in the stores. We also have jewellery, we have soaps all naturally made, we have 3D art – Noah’s Art, that does that, it takes them three days to do a lightsaber piece by piece. We have baking, oh my, we have a lot.”

100 per cent of proceeds go back to the youths who made and sold them.

Meier also invited a couple of adult vendors, who will help to cover the costs of putting on the market.

Another, who does hand-make bracelets, will donate all revenues to cancer research.

At the end of the day, Meier says the kid entrepreneurs are the real stars of the show.

“One thing out of COVID that came, it taught our kids that, you know, they can do a lot more than just play a video game or watch TV. Their skills came out and it needs to be seen.”

The Mistletoe Market runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free.

As busy as he is preparing for Christmas, Santa will make some time to take photos with children from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

There will also be a “Letters to Santa” box. When he gets back to the North Pole, Kris Kringle will write back. Anyone dropping off letters is reminded to include a return address.
