Hall nets two goals, Hurricanes beat Oil Kings 3-2 Friday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Following an overtime loss to Regina Wednesday night, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were out for redemption Friday night as they hosted the Edmonton Oil Kings at the ENMAX Centre.

FIRST PERIOD

The game’s opening frame saw a flurry of goals, as well as a fair share of penalties.

Edmonton’s Eric Johnston was called for boarding at the 3:25 mark. Shortly after, at 3:42, Lethbridge’s Joe Arnsten was issued a minor for tripping.

At 7:46, Lethbridge went on the board with a goal from Justin Hall. His eighth of the year was assisted by Logan Wormald and Alex Thacker.

Wormald was then called for holding at the 13:30 mark. Alex Thacker then put the ‘Canes up 2-0 with a goal at 18:22, assisted by Nolan Bentham and Kade Nolan.

At 19:10, Justin Hall received a minor penalty for boarding.

Before the buzzer sounded, Dylan Guenther scored his 12th of the season to cut Lethbridge’s lead to one. At the end of the first, it was 2-1 for the Hurricanes.

SECOND PERIOD

There were more penalties than goals in the second period. At 4:21, Lethbridge’s Nolan Bentham was called for boarding, with Edmonton’s Jakub Demek receiving a minor for roughing.

Lethbridge went up 3-1 at the 7:27 mark, courtesy of Justin Hall’s second goal of the game, assisted by Trevor Thurston and Jett Jones.

Oil King Jake Neighbours was given a minor penalty for charging at 10:52 and his teammate Jalen Luypen was issued a minor for kneeing at the 18:19 mark before the buzzer rang.

THIRD PERIOD

Going into the game’s final period, the Lethbridge Hurricanes led 3-1.

15 seconds into the frame, Trevor Thurston was issued a minor for slashing, putting Edmonton on the power play. Thurston again received a whistle at the 3:36 mark for cross-checking.

Midway through the period, Josh Williams scored his 11th goal of the season for the Oil Kings. The scoreboard read 3-2 for Lethbridge.

At 12:43, Edmonton’s Logan Dowhaniuk received a minor penalty for holding. Lethbridge’s Kade Nolan picked up a minor for tripping at 15:03.

At the final 20 minute mark, Dowhaniuk and Hurricane Logan Barlage were called for roughing but that was all she wrote for the Friday night matchup, with Lethbridge earning the 3-2 victory.

Lethbridge has the weekend off. The ‘Canes will be back on the ice Friday, December 3 against the Brandon Wheat Kings at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge.

Meanwhile, the Oil Kings are back at home in Edmonton this Sunday, November 28 against the Saskatoon Blades.
