LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service’s Charity Checkstop helped bring in loads of donations to a seasonal cause.

The event was held on Sunday, November 28 and the beneficiary from the LPS’ second annual Charity Checkstop was the Christmas Hope campaign, a collaboration between the Interfaith Food Bank, Lethbridge Food Bank, Lethbridge Family Service’s Angel Tree, the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots and MyCityCare’s Shop of Wonders, as well as Volunteer Lethbridge.

Members of the community braved the strong wind gusts to donate new, unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items and money. The Charity Checkstop, set up in front of the ENMAX Centre, brought in 792 gifts, 585 kilograms (1,291 lbs) of food and over $1,260 in cash and gift cards.

Christmas Hope’s campaign manager Michelle Gallucci said, “Christmas Hope isn’t just a Christmas program…it is the shared experiences of an entire community, told with such emotion and clarity, that it lifts us.”

“We are so thankful to LPS for being a part of that experience.”

The LPS noted that plans are already underway for next year’s Charity Checkstop. Organizer Constable Stewart Kambeitz said, “thanks to everyone in the community who dropped by to donate and all of our partners and volunteers who helped with the Charity Checkstop this year.”

Donations for the Christmas Hope campaign are being accepted until December 20. More information is available here.
