LETHBRIDGE, AB – Over a quarter of a million dollars is going to dozens of community groups across the region providing sports and recreational activities.

The Lethbridge 2020 Alberta Summer Games Society has announced the distribution of the 2020 Games Legacy Fund grants.

Games President Rick Blakely says 32 sport, school, community, and cultural non-profits will receive a combined $276,141.61.

“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to host the 2020 Games in Lethbridge to support the growth and development of local sport organizations and have a positive impact on our community. Distributing this amount of legacy funding is a very satisfying alternative that will have a lasting impact on these organizations and their members.”

The largest grant will go to the Lethbridge Bicycle Moto-Cross Association. They will use $40,000 for track upgrades.

The 2020 Games Legacy Fund is comprised of remaining casino funds generated by games volunteers and sponsorships that were donated to the legacy fund after last year’s Games were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was great to receive such a variety of applications. Our primary objective was to provide financial support to as many organizations as possible to impact as many youth as possible. I believe we have succeeded in doing that,” said Games Manager Steve Dudas.
