Active COVID cases in Alberta fall by over 400 since Monday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past four days.

Note: Due to lower COVID-19 case counts in recent weeks, LNN will only be reporting COVID numbers twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Should the situation change, we will go back to daily reporting.

Over the last four days, 1,383 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of approximately 346. To date, there have been 336,392 cases in Alberta.

4,440 cases are active while 328,694 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, there have been 90 positive tests since Monday, or about 23 each day. That includes 29 in Lethbridge and 24 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections across the region fell by 29.

Since Monday’s update, 16 Albertans died from COVID with seven in the North Zone, six in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Central Zone, and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, 3,258 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 395 patients are currently hospitalized including 78 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 124,126 cases, 1,749 active
    • 96 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 852 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 104,302 cases, 1,166 active
    • 126 in hospital, 43 in ICU
    • 1,318 deaths (six new)
  • North Zone – 46,463 cases, 653 active
    • 58 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 399 deaths (seven new)
  • Central Zone – 38,196 cases, 537 active
    • 74 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 400 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 23,265 cases, 329 active
    • 41 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 289 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past three days:

  • Lethbridge – 7,208 cases (29 new), 122 active, 62 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,637 cases (seven new), 50 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,375 cases (nine new), 36 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,189 cases (13 new), 36 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,584 cases (24 new), 68 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,101 cases (one new), six active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,984 cases (six new), 22 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,863 cases (four new), 26 active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,300 cases (five new), 18 active, 17 deaths
  • Cypress County – 864 cases (three new), 13 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 792 cases (two new), 10 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 657 cases (six new), nine active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 576 cases (one new), five active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 515 cases (three new), 15 active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 345 cases (one new), two active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 182 cases (two new), 10 active, one death
  • Waterton – Eight cases, zero active, zero deaths
