It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of DWIGHT (SAM) EVANS, beloved husband of Evelyn Evans, who passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit, on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 77 years.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 52 years Evelyn Evans, son Clay (Tara) Evans and their daughters Cassie and Jorja, daughter Carol (Rob) Spark and their sons Liam and Ira, brother Cam (Eileen) Evans, sister Rita Lemieux, in-laws Marie Morrissey, Phyllis (Mike) Leddy, Charles (Willie) Murphy and Leo (Jane) Murphy, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dwight was predeceased by parents Hazel and Rae Evans, brother Harlow Evans, brother-in-law Roger Lemieux and many in-laws.
Dwight was born July 9th, 1944 and was raised on the family farm near Warner. Dwight was trained in electronics at Devry Tech and later became a journeyman electrician. He worked as a miner at Thompson nickel mine, and as a seismic observer on the ocean, tundra and desert. He was a partner at Greens N Things in Medicine Hat. His work took him to Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NWT, Michigan, California, Alabama, Newfoundland and PEI, as well as two years in Pakistan with his family. Dwight’s heart always wanted to farm, so in 1986, they embarked on a homesteading adventure, moving to Carcajou/Keg River. As he worked the land, he built his house and granaries. He was active in the community as an electrician, hauling water for others and as a sawyer cutting lumber with his portable saw mill. They were part of that community for 32 years. They made many good friends and participated in curling, fishing derbies, playing cards and in pony poker rallies.
In 2017, they retired to Lethbridge to be closer to family. Dwight was a humble, kind man that made friends easily wherever he went. He always saw the good in people and was willing to lend a helping hand. Dwight enjoyed engaging with children, especially his grandchildren. He would stir their imaginations with his many adventurous stories. He loved visits from family and friends. He was well travelled and always ready for adventure. He will be sadly missed.
