Daily COVID cases above 600 this weekend in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

Note: Due to lower COVID-19 case counts in recent weeks, LNN will only be reporting COVID numbers twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Should the situation change, we will go back to daily reporting.

In that time, 1,925 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 642. To date, there have been 342,948 positive tests in Alberta.

It has been several weeks since the province had more than 500 new daily cases.

5,652 cases are active, an increase of 1,221 since our most recent report on Friday, while 334,004 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, there were 54 new cases over the last three days or 18 per day. Lethbridge saw 19 positive tests or just over six each day.

Active infections for the region went up by 12.

Since Friday’s update, six Albertans died from COVID with three in the Central Zone and one each in the Calgary, Edmonton, and North Zones. To date, 3,292 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 324 patients are currently hospitalized including 69 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 127,419 cases, 2,924 active
    • 113 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 856 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 106,180 cases, 1,630 active
    • 99 in hospital, 33 in ICU
    • 1,328 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 46,936 cases, 380 active
    • 35 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 406 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 38,838 cases, 492 active
    • 60 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 412 deaths (three new)
  • South Zone – 23,474 cases, 212 active
    • 17 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 290 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past three days:

  • Lethbridge – 7,311 cases (19 new), 84 active, 62 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,685 cases (nine new), 44 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,396 cases (two new), 18 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,223 cases (eight new), 22 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,634 cases (13 new), 37 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,107 cases (one new), six active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,022 cases (three new), 26 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,875 cases (three new), nine active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,309 cases (four new), eight active, 18 deaths
  • Cypress County – 876 cases (three new), 11 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 799 cases, five active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 661 cases (one new), three active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 578 cases (two new), two active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 529 cases (three new), 15 active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 345 cases, zero active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 183 cases, zero active, one death
  • Waterton – Eight cases, zero active, zero deaths
