Iron Shirt has worked with the File Hills First Nations Police Service in Saskatchewan and was a detachment commander for the Manitoba First Nations Police Service. The Blood Tribe member was transferred a headdress by the first Chief of Police of the Blood Tribe Police Service, Wilton Good Striker, on Christmas Day.

2022 marks the 31st year of operation for the Blood Tribe Police Service. The Police Commission noted that Iron Shirt’s swearing in will mark two decades since a Blood Tribe member has been appointed as Chief of the police service. He takes over for Acting Chief of Police, Nitsitohkitopi, Sergeant Grant Buckskin.

A release from the Police Commission stated, “the Commission would like to thank Grant for his dedication to the service and responding to the needs of the department during this time of transition.”
