Farm Management Canada offering online farm risk workshops

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — The Canadian Agricultural Partnership ‘Roots to Success’ project has offered meaningful progress towards improved risk management for both agriculture and the agri-food section. A comprehensive approach to managing risk has been promoted and funded under the Agri-Risk Initiative.

The project has already begun offering farmers, and consultants working directly with farmers, much-needed training to identify, assess, and prioritize risks and create comprehensive risk management plans.

The initial training session was held in July, 2020, followed by two other training sessions for producers that took place in August. Because of high demand and limited space, more workshops, online, have been set for this month and in February.

The project will help establish industry benchmarks using baseline data to identify opportunities for policy and program improvement to meet the risk management needs of Canadian farmers. It includes ways to establish links with industry initiatives, including the government’s Business Risk Management programs.

Farm Management Canada is conducting this winter’s series of workshops, to educate producers about risk assessment and how to implement a comprehensive risk management plan for their farm. While the workshops are online at this time, it’s hoped in-person sessions will take place once gathering and travel restrictions are lifted.
