6,163 new COVID cases in Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

6,163 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 436,495. Of those, 64,129 cases are active while 368,986 people have recovered.

With 16,541 tests conducted over the past day, the positivity rate was 37.3 per cent.

In the South Zone, 320 people tested positive with 186 in the South Zone.

Active infections for the region went up by 161 and in Lethbridge by 105.

Since yesterday’s update, five Albertans died from COVID with two each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones and one in the South Zone. To date, 3,380 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 822 patients are currently hospitalized including 81 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks increases of 36 and two respectively from Thursday’s report.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 172,344 cases, 29,544 active
    • 336 in hospital, 35 in ICU
    • 892 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 140,985 cases, 24,062 active
    • 301 in hospital, 30 in ICU
    • 1,350 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 50,977 cases, 3,031 active
    • 66 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 419 deaths
  • Central Zone – 43,933 cases, 3,817 active
    • 85 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 422 deaths
  • South Zone – 27,304 cases, 2,956 active
    • 34 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 297 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past 24 hours:

  • Lethbridge – 9,032 cases (186 new), 1,348 active, 66 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 3,402 cases (62 new), 527 active, nine deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,936 cases (76 new), 452 active, 23 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,694 cases (48 new), 374 active, 34 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 5,513 cases (33 new), 663 active, 79 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 2,311 cases (31 new), 182 active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,220 cases (20 new), 127 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,080 cases (16 new), 177 active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,406 cases (six new), 74 active, 18 deaths
  • Cypress County – 965 cases (six new), 70 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 868 cases (six new), 49 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 800 cases (nine new), 110 active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 631 cases (one new), 45 active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 559 cases (three new), 23 active, eight deaths
