COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale has purchased a new piece of equipment for its arena.

The town’s gotten a new electric Zamboni thanks to $50,000 in funding from the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Funding Agreement through Alberta Municipalities. Officials noted that the aim of the fund is to support municipalities in their transition to electrically fuelled transportation and is supported by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCA).

Russ Tanner, Coaldale’s Director of Recreation and Community Services said, “our staff have been fully trained to use the new piece of equipment.”

“The new electric Zamboni is quieter and will produce less emissions in the facility, which will result in a huge improvement for the indoor air quality.”

$35,000 was also donated by Friends of the Arena.

Coaldale mayor Jack Van Rijn stated, “we’re greatly appreciated of [Alberta Municipalities] and the Friends of the Arena for creating the opportunity for Coaldale to purchase its first electric vehicle.”

“We’re very excited to see it in operation, ensuring quality ice while reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions.”
