1,007 Albertans hospitalized with COVID, a new pandemic high

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 15,886 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 5,295. To date, Alberta has seen 452,381 cases.

72,368 cases are active while 376,610 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 497 people tested positive, or 166 each day.

Active infections in the region increased by 137.

Since Friday’s update, 23 Albertans died from COVID with 12 in the Calgary Zone, 10 in the Edmonton Zone, and one in the Central Zone. To date, 3,403 people in the province have died as a result of the pandemic.

Provincially, 1,007 patients are currently hospitalized including 94 who have been admitted to intensive care. Those numbers went up by 185 and 13 respective from our last update on Friday.

This marks the first time in the pandemic that the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Alberta has been in the four digits.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 181,448 cases, 34,847 active
    • 381 in hospital, 34 in ICU
    • 904 deaths (12 new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 145,651 cases, 26,002 active
    • 426 in hospital, 40 in ICU
    • 1,360 deaths (10 new)
  • North Zone – 51,517 cases, 3,235 active
    • 62 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 419 deaths
  • Central Zone – 44,926 cases, 4,409 active
    • 94 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 423 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 27,801 cases, 3,093 active
    • 44 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 297 deaths
