AHS reports 26 COVID deaths in Alberta including three in Lethbridge

Feb 4, 2022 | 4:11 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

2,086 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 503,433. Of those, 32,711 cases are active while 467,088 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 243 people tested positive with 69 in Lethbridge and 67 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections in the region decreased by 10 and in the city by 15.

Since yesterday’s update, 26 Albertans died from COVID with 10 in the Edmonton Zone, seven in the Calgary Zone, five in the South Zone, and four in the Central Zone. To date, 3,634 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Three of the deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge while one person each also passed away in Brooks and the County of Newell.

Provincially, 1,584 patients are currently hospitalized including 118 who have been admitted to intensive care. The number for hospitalizations is unchanged but ICU increased by six compared to our most recent report on Thursday.
