AHS reports 39 COVID deaths in Alberta this weekend, two in South Zone

Feb 7, 2022 | 3:49 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

4,618 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 1,539, bringing the total to 508,051. Of those, 30,094 cases are active while 474,284 people have recovered.

With 14,765 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 31.3 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 364 people tested positive or 121 per day with 138 in Lethbridge and 84 in Fort Macleod.

Active infections in the region went down by 117 and by 41 in the city.

Since Friday’s update, 39 Albertans died from COVID including 18 in the Edmonton Zone, 12 in the Calgary Zone, five in the Central Zone, and two each in the South and North Zones. To date, 3,673 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge and the M.D. of Pincher Creek.

Provincially, 1,542 patients are currently hospitalized including 118 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 42 for hospitalizations while the number in ICU is unchanged since our last report on Friday.
