1,667 new COVID cases in Alberta Tuesday

Feb 8, 2022 | 8:25 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,667 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 509,718. Of those, 28,265 cases are active while 477,767 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 145 people tested positive with 56 in Lethbridge.

Since Monday’s update, 13 Albertans died from COVID including one in the South Zone. To date, 3,686 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Fort MacLeod

Provincially, 1,623 patients are currently hospitalized including 129 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 81 hospitalizations since our last report.
