Radio-a-thon raising funds to address priority needs at Chinook Regional Hospital

LETHBRIDGE, AB – This Thursday marks the 12th annual Care from the Heart Day Radio-a-thon.

The annual event raises funds for the Chinook Regional Hospital (CRH) Foundation.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on February 10, local radio stations will help share the stories of doctors, nurses, administration, donors and front-line healthcare staff as they discuss the impacts donations have made to the organization.

In years past, announcers would broadcast live but due to COVID-19 this year, the event will strictly take place over the radio airwaves.

Shonna Lamb, development officer with the CRH Foundation said, “the community gets to take a peak, sort of, behind some of the un-shared stories of what donation dollars are doing for each of the patients [at Lethbridge’s Chinook Regional Hospital] and the most vulnerable in the community.”

As part of the initiative, community members can call in at 403-388-6001 to donate or do so online here. Lamb noted the CRH Foundation is also accepting donations leading up to and after the event.

She told LNN that money collected “goes to an area that we call the greatest needs.”

“This is an area or a fund where we can work with the highest priority needs of the hospital so in an average year we would fund between 20 to 40 projects and they would range from different areas, from seniors health, pediatrics, the emergency department, addictions [and] mental health. There’s really not an area of the hospital that’s not touched by the donations throughout the year.”

This year, the goal is to raise $275,000. Last year, the initiative helped collect $260,000.

Lamb commented, “our sights are set pretty high, but we find that have such warm support from the community that we’re going to do our best and see if we can do it.”

She thanked all radio stations for partnering with the CRH Foundation for the event.

“They do a ton of work leading up to make this look seamless and smooth and we couldn’t do it without them, so a massive thanks goes out to them as well.”

Lamb also issued a thank you to all members of the community who have supported the event in the past and those who will help out this year.

“The generosity means so much to us and it allows us to make [an] impact in the hospital and in the community, and just thank you to everyone who is involved, in whatever way that looks like, whatever capacity that might be.”

On Thursday, the CRH Foundation will be sharing the on-going fundraising results on their social media pages, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
