COVID hospitalizations remain near pandemic highs in Alberta

Feb 9, 2022 | 4:28 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,684 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 511,402. Of those, 26,896 cases are active while 480,810 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 130 people tested positive with 51 in Lethbridge.

Active infections for the region went down by 113 and by 44 in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, 10 Albertans died from COVID with four each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones, and one each in the Central and North Zones. To date, 3,696 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,615 patients are currently hospitalized including 135 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of eight for hospitalizations but six more who are in ICU compared to our most recent report on Tuesday.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
