Hurricanes’ homecoming a success with 1-0 shoot-out win over Warriors Tuesday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A scoreless regulation period resulted in a Tuesday night shoot-out in Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes were back on home ice at the ENMAX Centre following a four-game road trip. They hosted the Moose Jaw Warriors and were looking to snap a two-game losing streak.

FIRST PERIOD

The game’s opening frame saw no goals and only one penalty called, on Lethbridge’s Tyson Laventure.

He received a minor for tripping at the 10:36 mark, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize on the power play.

SECOND PERIOD

The official’s whistle was blown a few more times in the second period. 1:39 in, Nolan Bentham of the Hurricanes was given a minor for tripping.

Minutes later, at 4:43, Moose Jaw’s Tate Schofer was called for slashing. Lethbridge’s Logan Wormald received a delay of game penalty at the 12:55 mark.

THIRD PERIOD & OVERTIME

Early in the final period of regulation, 44 seconds in, Josh Hoekstra of the Warriors was issued a minor penalty for interference. His teammate Schofer received the same penalty at 15:07.

With no goals scored in regulation, the game was sent to overtime.

No goals were scored in the extra period, but 27 seconds in, Moose Jaw’s Daemon Hunt received a minor penalty for hooking. The Tuesday night tilt would be sent to a shoot-out!

SHOOT-OUT

It wasn’t until the seventh shot attempt of the shoot-out, and Lethbridge’s fourth, that the game came to a close.

Yegor Klavdiev got one by former Hurricanes goaltender Carl Tetachuk to win the game for Lethbridge! Denton Mateychuk had a chance to score on Bryan Thomson but was unsuccessful, giving the ‘Canes the 1-0 victory.

UP NEXT

The Hurricanes sit in fourth in the Central Division, eighth in the WHL Eastern Conference, with a record of 19-21-2-1 (41 points). The Warriors are in second place in the East Division, fourth in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 27-17-3-2 (59 points).

Up next for Lethbridge is a meeting with the Brandon Wheat Kings at the ENMAX Centre Friday, February 18. Moose Jaw is in Calgary Wednesday night, February 16, against the Hitmen.
