Cardston RCMP investigating impaired driving death

CARDSTON COUNTY, AB – A Southern Alberta woman has been charged following a fatal collision.

At approximately 6:15 pm on Monday, February 14, Cardston RCMP responded to a serious single-vehicle collision on Highway 505 near Township Road 44, west of Hill Spring.

An SUV was heading eastbound on Highway 505 and did not make a proper turn, resulting in it leaving the roadway and rolling.

The passenger, Ty Chief Moon, 25, of Levern, was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. His next of kin has been notified.

The driver, Jayleen Spotted Eagle, 19, of Glenwood, was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

She has been charged with impaired driving causing death, driving with blood alcohol over .08 causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.

Spotted Eagle also faces four charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

Following a bail hearing, she has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Cardston Provincial Court on March 15, 2022.
