COVID hospitalizations drop in Alberta Wednesday

Feb 16, 2022 | 4:19 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

888 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 518,538. Of those, 17,674 cases are active while 497,060 people have recovered.

With 4,117 tests conducted over that time, meaning the positivity rate was approximately 21 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 94 people tested positive with 44 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 14 Albertans died from COVID including one new in the South Zone.

The one death in the region came from a person in Cardston County. To date, 3,804 people in the province died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,500 patients are currently hospitalized including 121 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 38 for hospitalizations and a decrease of two for ICU compared to our most recent report on Tuesday.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
