RICK KURIO, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Lorna Kurio, passed away suddenly at the University of Alberta Hospital surrounded by family, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the age of 64 years.
Rick was born April 14, 1957, to Ken and Amy Kurio in Taber, Alberta. As a teenager, he pumped gas evenings and weekends at his family’s service station. He received his electronic technology certificate from SAIT in 1979 and worked at the Shell gas plant, the Lethbridge Brewery, Kenway Chrysler, and UMA Engineering prior to working as an automation specialist at Richardson Oilseed from 1998 until retirement in 2017.
Rick was a talented golfer and fisherman. On weekend mornings he could be seen at the Lethbridge Country Club golfing with friends. He enjoyed summer holidays, getting up early to go fishing, and driving the boat for the kids so they could waterski. Rick had an interest in photography and audio equipment. The family enjoyed watching his yearly slideshow, which was an excellent recap of the year. He loved playing hockey and was an avid Flames fan. Rick prized his vehicles and always took immaculate care of them. He enjoyed going on road trips and traveling the world with family and friends.
Rick was a dedicated husband, son, brother, very proud father, and adoring grandfather. He will be remembered for his calm demeaner, patience, compassion, and kindness. He was a loyal and dependable friend. His nieces and nephews learned many life lessons from him. While the ALS diagnosis was devastating, he handled it with grace and dignity. He was able to go on many adventures and spend quality time with his family until he passed away suddenly of an unrelated heart event.
Besides his loving wife, Rick is survived by his parents: Ken and Amy Kurio of Lethbridge; his children: Robert (Lauren) Kurio of Lacombe and Kristyn (Dean) Campbell of Edmonton; his grandchild: Kai Kurio; his brothers and sisters: David Kurio, Shelley Kurio, and Marilyn Kurio; his many nieces, nephews, their families, and the Matz family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Society of Alberta (https://www.alsab.ca/donate). A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
