Hurricanes bested by Wheat Kings 5-2 Friday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Following a 1-0 shoot-out win against Moose Jaw Tuesday, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were looking for another win Friday night.

The ‘Canes hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings, but unfortunately for fans in attendance, their team was unable to pull away with the victory.

In front of a crowd of 2,542, the visiting Wheat Kings picked up the 5-2 win.

FIRST PERIOD

The first period saw no goals, but Lethbridge’s Brayden Edwards was issued a minor penalty for high sticking at the 11:10 mark.

SECOND PERIOD

Trae Johnson put Brandon up 1-0 with his second goal of the season at the 6:16 mark of the second. Teammate Nate Danielson put the Wheat Kings up 2-0 with his 15th goal of the season at 17:17.

As for penalties, Brandon’s Ben Thornton received a minor at 4:28. Kade Nolan (Lethbridge) was given a minor for high sticking at 10:14, while teammate Briley Wood received a minor for holding at 16:28.

Wheat King Tyson Zimmer was called for tripping, a minor penalty, at the 17:39 mark.

THIRD PERIOD

The final frame saw few penalties, but plenty of goals.

19 seconds in, Ridley Greig of the Wheat Kings (born in Lethbridge) was issued a minor penalty for tripping. Kade Noland trimmed Brandon’s lead to one at the 4:42 mark.

Nate Danielson put a damper on that excitement for Lethbridge though, scoring at 5:13 to put Brandon up 3-1. Tyson Zimmer of the Wheat Kings was given a minor penalty for high sticking at 6:41.

9:08, Briley Wood scored Lethbridge’s second of the game. The score was now 3-2.

At the 18:33 mark, Nate Danielson scored his third of the game, completing his hat-trick. Brandon’s victory was solidified with Trae Johnson’s second goal of the Friday night tilt at the 19:18 mark.

Brandon left the ice with the 5-2 victory.

UP NEXT

The Hurricanes don’t have too much time to rest. Lethbridge is back on the ice Saturday, February 19. They’ll be in Medicine Hat against the Tigers.

The Wheat Kings visit the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday.
