COVID cases remain low in Alberta over last four days

Mar 2, 2022 | 3:49 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Tuesday. Due to technical issues on AHS’ part, a full breakdown was not provided on Monday, so today’s report will cover statistics from the past four days.

388 cases were confirmed across the province on Monday, bringing the total to 526,563. Of those, 8,164 cases are active while 514,460 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

Over the past four days, 98 people tested positive in the South Zone or 24.5 each day. There were 43 new cases in Lethbridge, or just under 11 each day.

Active infections in the region went down by 100 compared to Friday and by 31 in the city.

Since Friday’s update, 27 Albertans died from COVID including 10 in the Edmonton Zone, five each in the South and Calgary Zones, four in the North Zone, and three in the Central Zone. To date, 3,939 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone include two in Medicine Hat and one each in Brooks, Cardston County, and the M.D. of Taber.

Provincially, 1,231 patients are currently hospitalized including 84 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of six for hospitalizations and four for ICU compared to our most recent report on Monday.
