RCMP investigating suspicious death of an infant

BONNYVILLE, AB — The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death of an infant in Bonnyville, Alberta northeast of Edmonton.

RCMP were called to the Bonnyville Hospital on February 21, 2022 to investigate suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of an infant who was only 17 days old.

An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on February 23, and the manner of death was determined as a homicide.

After further investigation, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested one adult male in relation to the infant’s death.

29-year-old Blair David Johnson of Glendon, Alberta has been charged with manslaughter. Johnson had a judicial hearing and will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance in Bonnyville Provincial Court March 8, 2022.

RCMP say no additional information can be released as the matter is now before the courts.
