Lethbridge man charged in connection with stabbing outside nightclub

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man has been charged following a stabbing outside a nightclub in the city.

Lethbridge Police received numerous calls at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, reporting a dispute involving a group of people outside a nightclub on the 1200 block of 1 Avenue South. Three men were taken to Chinook Regional Hospital with knife wounds, including the individual who now faces charges.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says a 26-year-old man from Fort Macleod suffered multiple stab wounds and is listed in stable condition in hospital. A 20-year-old man from Lethbridge, who police say was stabbed twice, was treated and released from hospital.

The suspect, 23-year-old John Gondurak-Courterielle, of Lethbridge, suffered an injury to his hand. He was treated in hospital and later released.

Gondurak-Courterielle is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, and possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public. He was released from custody following a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on April 1, 2022.
