Only 37 new COVID cases confirmed in South Zone Wednesday

Mar 9, 2022 | 3:54 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

552 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 529,736. Of those, 6,878 cases are active while 518,872 people have recovered.

With 3,068 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 17.99 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 37 people tested positive with 10 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region fell by 49 and in the city by 14.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID with two each in the Edmonton and North Zones and one each in the South, Calgary, and Central Zones. To date, 3,986 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of North Lethbridge.

Provincially, 1,087 patients are currently hospitalized including 78 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 19 for hospitalizations and one for ICU compared to our most recent report on Tuesday.
