LETHBRIDGE, AB – Today marks two years since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the spread of the COVID-19 virus a global pandemic. Since then, more than 450-million cases and 6-million deaths have been reported worldwide.

In Lethbridge, the Alberta government has reported a total of 11, 707 cases and 88 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began.

The province released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, March 11, 2022, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

A total of 473 new cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 530,761. Of those, 6,545 cases are active, while 520,213 people have recovered.

Active infections in the province fell by 144.

With 2, 519 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 18.8 per cent.

In the South Zone, 32 people tested positive with 18 in Lethbridge.

It should be noted that since January 10, the province has limited the number of people who can get a COVID-19 PCR test from AHS to only those in high-risk settings. As a result, the number of new and active cases are likely higher than what is being reported by the province.

Regarding hospitalizations, 1,045 patients are currently hospitalized, including 74 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 22 for hospitalizations and two for ICU, compared to the most recent report on Thursday.

To date, 4,003 Albertans have died from COVID-19. Since yesterday’s update, 11 people have died across the province, with one new death in the South Health Zone. The person who died in the South Zone was from Medicine Hat.
