COVID hospitalizations in Alberta fall below 1,000 for first time in two months

Mar 14, 2022 | 3:50 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 1,351 people tested positive for a daily average of 450. Currently, 6,640 cases are active while 521,451 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, there were 124 new cases, or 41 per day. Lethbridge saw 62 cases or approximately 30 each day.

Active infections in the region are down by 30 and in the city by seven.

Since Friday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID with six in the Edmonton Zone, five in the North Zone, four in the Calgary Zone, and three in the Central Zone. To date, 4,021 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 986 patients are currently hospitalized including 73 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 59 for hospitalizations and one for ICU compared to our most recent report on Friday.

The last time that COVID-19 hospitalizations were under 1,000 was on January 16, 2022, just under two months ago.

That number peaked on February 7 at 1,542 and gradually declined over the following month.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
