COVID hospitalizations take slight bump upwards in Alberta Tuesday

Mar 15, 2022 | 3:52 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

459 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 532,571. Of those, 6,422 cases are active while 522,124 people have recovered.

With 1,831 tests being conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 25 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

Due to discrepancies with the numbers AHS is reporting, we are unable to say how many new cases there are on a regional or community-specific basis. The numbers in the bullet points below are updated to the most recent figures released on Tuesday.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with two in the South Zone and one each in the Central and Edmonton Zones. To date, 4,025 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Cardston County and the M.D. of Pincher Creek.

Provincially, 1,001 patients are currently hospitalized including 70 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 15 for hospitalizations and a decrease of three for ICU compared to our most recent report on Monday.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
