LPS charges youth with firearm offences

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A youth was charged following an alleged incident at the SLP Skate Park Wednesday.

Lethbridge Police attended to the scene after a firearms complaint was filed around 7:30 pm on March 16, 2022.

At the skate park in the 2300 block of Parkside Drive South, police confirmed there was no active threat upon arrival, as the subjects involved had left the scene.

The LPS release says, “investigators learned an altercation involving several people resulted in shots being fired at a vehicle from an air pistol. One young male, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, turned himself in.”

Two loaded air pistols were seized from the scene.

The suspect, 16, of Taber, was charged with numerous offences including assault with a weapon, use of a firearm while committing an offence, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

He remains in custody while awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

As the suspect is underage, his name will not be released. No further information is available at this time.
