Downwards trend continues Thursday for COVID hospitalizations

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

Starting on the week of Monday, March 21, COVID-19 data, including cases and outbreaks, will only be reported by AHS once per week on Wednesdays.

Province to limit reporting of COVID numbers, wind down RAPID testing program

619 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 533,783. Of those, 6552 cases are active while 523,212.

In the South Zone, 72 people tested positive with 31 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region went up by 14 and increased in the city by two.

Since yesterday’s update, six Albertans died from COVID with three in the North Zone, two in the Edmonton Zone, and one in the Central Zone. To date, 4,019 people in the province have died as a result of the pandemic.

Provincially, 967 patients are currently hospitalized including 67 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 22 for hospitalizations and three for ICU compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 214,761 cases, 2,303 active
    • 308 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 1,095 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 170,666 cases, 1,971 active
    • 328 in hospital, 29 in ICU
    • 1,573 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 59,522 cases, 700 active
    • 124 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 487 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 54,025 cases, 918 active
    • 124 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 510 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 34,576 cases, 650 active
    • 83 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 354 deaths

Below is a breakdown of current cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 11,850 cases (31 new), 290 active, 88 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 4,568 cases (11 new), 100 active, 12 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 3,682 cases (seven new), 97 active, 28 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 3,606 cases (13 less), 92 active, 48 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 7,091 cases (15 new), 130 active, 89 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,636 cases (one new), 10 active, 32 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,665 cases (four new), 48 active, 22 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,638 cases (four new), 54 active, 45 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,655 cases (one new), 19 active, 19 deaths
  • Cypress County – 1,168 cases (one new), 18 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 1,173 cases (12 new), 29 active, 14 deaths
  • County of Warner – 1,094 cases, 16 active, eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 821 cases, 20 active, eight deaths
  • County of Newell – 653 cases (two new), six active, nine deaths
